Default Window Tinting

Should I tint my drivers side and passenger side windows? Currently my JKU has the rear and panel windows tinted. I'm just concerned that the fronts will not match the other factory tint.

Any advise?? Photos of tints, no tints?

We had the front door windows tinted on both our 2-door and our 4-door JKs. We had them match the back windows to the front, and the light filtering looks even from the side profile. The shop did a great job.

I would advise to go slightly lighter on the front door windows. With sunglasses on, the driver/passenger side windows are almost too dark.

Default Window Tinting

I had mine tinted last year. I have the tinted soft windows in the back as you can see in the picture. The tint guy told me they were around 30% tint. So I got 30% tint done on the driver and passenger windows and I think it looks great all around. It is just enough to make it difficult to see stuff you may have on the seat or in the floor but light enough that the you can still see who is in the car. To me the 30% was a good match and a good balance. Good luck!

I had a bad experience having too dark tint on the front side windows. Decades ago in a state that did not care, I had dark tinted side windows. One extra dark night in the rain I was turning a corner, and did not see some guy walking across the street. I was looking but through the tint it was just too dark. Did not hit him but it was close.

Peeled that dark tint right off ASAP.

IMO matching the back factory tint will make it too dark for safety.

That is a very good point and should be taken seriously. I've had all my vehicles tinted with (not legal) 10 - 15% tint. I personally like it, much less glare on the highway, at night, and the sun doesn't beat down on you.

You do have to watch out for dark areas and areas not lit up by street lights as Yankee mentioned, it is easily to loose sight of them.

Offroad it doesn't bother me much. I have doors off in summer time and if they are on, either roll down the window or just turn on the windshield lights. They point sideways so they light up the sides very, very well.

Thanks! I'll keep all the recommendations in mind when selecting the right tint.

The 15% looks dark most of the time. The only time it looks mismatched is if the top is off and the Windows are up. in the photo the passenger window is open.
