I have a XRC8. seems like some of the smittybilt winches are hit and miss. mine on the other hand has seen its fair share of abuse, been dunked under water and still run it off the stock battery until the battery dies. if this one takes a crap and i have to buy a new one ill end up with a Ramsey winch i think.

give yourself peace of mind and go for the Warn M8000. Alittle more expensive but still within your price range. There is a reason why Warn has the reputation that they have.

X2, I have the M8000. Works great! You can't beat the customer support either. That is another one of Warn's high points from what I have read.

Harbor freight winch?
I forgot what magazines have that 20% off on item add or coupon, I used one once but cannot remember where I got it.
Is the Harbor freight comparible to the smitty built?
would it be compatable with a synthetic rope?
