Default Winch mount question

I am going to build a front bumper for my JK and I need some help. I want to build it with the winch hidden in the bumper but I need some measurements. I know the hole mounts are 10"x4.5" what I need is....

How big is the opening when looking down at the bumper?
How wide is the top of the bumper? meaning from the grille to the very front.
How wide is the opening from side to side? I have noticed some winches as wide as 22 1/2" but how much more room is given for easy installation?

I appreciate any and all help, Matt.

Matt, if you are building the bump. First mount winch where you want it, then build it around it... Getting numbers from other people will only make things confusing. Here is what I did.

I agree. Most winch bumpers are oversized to accommodate a wide variety of winches, many with integrated solenoids.

If you mount the winch and then build around it you will end up with the lowest profile, most integrated look... just like the excellent build pictured above

I started the build yesterday. I am going to build it without recessing it for the winch for now and see how it looks. I don't have a winch right now, so I'm just going to wait to get one and then go from there. If all goes well, I should have it finished and at least primed by the end of today.
