Still have not made up my mind on the winch...New question. Is there a good winch plate I can use to mount the inch in the gap between my front bumper and the front grill? Here is a pic of the space...it is an old pic, but it is the best one I have that shows the gap...

Just to clarify, also...the top of the bumper is basically flush with the frame rails. It sits right on top of the frame rails. Will a universal plate work?

Anyone mount a winch and use the non-winch mount Or Fab stubby? That would be awesome...

Awesome article. Still looking for a winch plate that will work in the gap I have. Here are some better pics.

you will need more room than that

here is a pic where you can see how much room you need from your grill, if you wanted to cut your bumper to accomidate a plate you could fit one

I agree, $130 bucks for peace of mind. This is a very reliable winch.

Ok, So I don't necessarily want to start a whole new thread, but I need a little more help. There is a buttload of winches available that will work and I have no idea what the differences are in some of them.

1. Looking now more towards the Superwinch EPi9.0, but why is the LP 8500 such crap? as one guy stated above...

2. Anyone know about the Tabor 9000 winch? It is made by Warn, comes with Warn parts, and after reading the Jp Magazine article, seemed to function just like a Warn, but its only $500. What gives?

3. Anyone know anything at all about Black Mountain Winches? This winch also held up well in the Jp article, but at $330 for an 8000 lb winch with the solenoid attached, it seems too good to be true. Any help?

I have read the Moab Jeeper article. I get it. Warn is the best. Can't afford a Warn. They also liked the Superwinch EPi9,0, but with how bad the LP8500 supposedly is, how can I trust the EPi9.0 is so great? And I am not really sold on the Chicago Electric winch, I get that it's cheap and it held up ok to the MoabJeeper test, but I can't get over how it looks, and that it just barely survived. I don't usually get involved in long winch-pulls, I just want something that can pull me out when I get stuck and is reliable.

I have a mile marker 8000 on the front of my jeep. I picked it up from Costco online for under 375.

A "budget" brand you could say. All Warn parts, even uses a Warn remote. A better choice in my opinion than the other brands in the poll

I don't know about everyone else, but I have done alot of research on winches. I have seen Ramsey and Superwinch winches fail on trail runs around here. Usually the solenoid heats up or burns out.

If you are looking for a RELIABLE winch, go for the Tabor. Line speed, synth line and all the bells and wistles mean nothing if the winch can't pull for longer than 3 minutes before it heats up and burns out!
Very interesting...pretty sure this is how I am going to go, but, is this winch waterproof? So far as if it rains, it is waterproof...not going to do any crazy water crossings anytime soon I don't think...

Not winch is really 100% water proof, a tabor or M8000 or XRC will be weather proof from rain and snow, but will not be "waterproof".
