Very informative thread. I think any of us who have a winch or run one in the past has had this question cross their mind. I have my positive terminal disconnected from the battery unless I am heading off into the woods. This might be the trick for my VR8000-S. Glad someone bumped this old thread.

I installed the breaker. I bought 12" of pre assembled, marine grade 2ga wire. I put a loop in it which seems to keep everything tightly in place. I also taped the neck out of it to avoid accidental contact. I feel better knowing it's not live 24/7 now.

Looks good, have you tried good pull yet? BTW, if you ever replace battery terminals, the Quadratec terminals work nice.
No, I haven't even tried the winch. That would have been smart. Duh. It was getting cold so I just wanted to finish.
