winch
that's the kind of input that helps us newbies. thanks david. the only reason i ask about using the 9.0rc is because of its light weight. would an option be to use a snatch block and a line extension? example: winch line out 45 feet, attached to an extension through the snatch block and back to the jeep? twice the power? i don';t plan on being stuck that often. if the winch gets used 6 times a year i will be surprised. lets me drive around with half the weight.
be gentle if this is a stupid question

I still think the 9.5ti is the better winch choice.
The more line you have on the drum the more pulling power you have.

The small warn winch is a really great product, but I tend to agree with the group here. The drum is just a little too small. Another part to think about is that you need a smaller fairlead also. Does warn make one that fits a standard Jeep bumper fairlead slot?
I like your thinking about weight. I'm continually looking for ways to take stuff off of my Jeep instead of adding to it. I run a Ramsey REP 8.5e. With Synth rope, it's under 60 lbs. Lifetime warranty and about $500 with steel cable. The fairlead needs to be replaced for synth rope though.
BTW, my front bumper is only 27 lbs.

Yes, the 9.0RC weighs in at 56 pounds. It's TINY compared to most 9000 pound winches. It comes from the factory with synthetic line...it's not offered with steel line.
Please do the basic research before acting like you understand the issues at hand. Something like looking at this link.

David, I'm sorry but you have written this down backwards. That won't stop me from continuing to buy from you though
Fewer wraps on the drum = more pulling power and slower line speed
More wraps on the drum = less pulling power and greater line speed.
It's a simple matter of mechanical advantage.
The 9.0RC will pull harder for closer work, as you'll have less line on the drum.
To the OP:
This is a neat idea...but Cdash is right about the length of your extensions. I would get a 50 foot extension - that would give you 100 feet of effective pull. If that's not going to be enough, then pick up an additional 75 footer...net result would be 175 feet of winch line that can be assembled in a variety of combinations. Just understand that every connection between winch lines that has metal in it adds to the danger of your recovery. Yes, synthetic line stretches less...but there is still a bit of stretch.
Also understand that the 9.0RC is built with light weight and compact size as a primary design aim. You're getting a smaller motor and shorter gearing than something like a 9.5ti.
By the way...I own a 9.5ti and am VERY happy with it. You wouldn't go wrong by buying one, especially if you put synthetic line on it. To be honest, just about anything with red "W" on it will probably do the job.

as far as bumpers go, it was between yours and the expedition dx. i went with the expedition because of the side wings. not sure i made the right decision but that is what happened :(. i really liked the rock crawler light setup on your bumper. i just didn;t think i needed it or i would have gotten your bumper.
thanks for the help
