Will lifted JK still fit in a normal garage?
Hey yall.
Im considering doing a 4" lift on the our '08 Sahara Unlimited 4x4.....and bumping up to 35" tires on 18" rims.......and I have no clue what the overall height of this type of set up might be.
I noticed the other day as we were pulling the Jeep into the garage, that there is not a ton of clearance currently between the top of the Jeep and the garage door opening. (only roughly about 4 or 5" currently)......with stock suspension and tires.
I was wondering if anyone else on here has done a lift and still able to pull into a standard height garage?
Just curious ahead of time.......and no I'm not worried about the Jeep getting wet/dirty.....we got a garage so we use it.........plus I installed an electric winch in the garage ceiling for the hardtop and hope i won't loose that with the lift and tires.

I depends on how tall your garage door is. Most homes come with a 7ft door though more and more are starting to use 8ft doors. I myself have an 8ft door and can park my Jeep indoors. If I had a 7ft door....no way. Mine has an 8.75" lift on 40" tires and stands about 7'6" or so.
Measure the height of your Jeep now. Then add in the lift kit height. Then measure the difference between your new and old tires and take half that distance. Add all that together on top of the height of your Jeep and subtract from the height of your garage door. If the number is positive, you're gold. If it's negative, break out the sawzall and head to Home Depot.

If you have the Jeep already, just measure the highest point of the Jeep and the lowest point in your garage and subtract. That will give you how much room you have remaining. Then figure an extra 1.5" for 35" tires and however much lift you are planning, but if you get a coil spring lift, expect an extra 1/2 to 1" if you don't have a heavy bumper or winch. No one can say with certainty if your Jeep will fit in your garage, every house is different, as well as every Jeep is different depending on fuel, passengers, stuff in the back.

There isn't a standard garage height, so posting clearance measurements is useless.
My JK stands at 74.5" to top of the soft-top bow, on 35s, with no lift and trimmed fenders, and mods & bumpers that cause some coil sag....Ohhh, and my garage door height is 80"

My former rig was a '94 YJ on a RE 4.5" spring lift w/MORE shcckles & IROK 36s and it fit fine as well. Measure everything to be sure, and, see if you can get your GDO to lift the door a bit more at full open. Often the opener leaves the door down a bit.
