Default Who's up for a game of ring gear pattern check ?

Wish there was an iPhone app for ring gear pattern checks...anyway...

Factoids: Front Diff. Reverse Spiral Gear 5.13 ratio @ .007" Backlash, stuffed into 1994 Ford F350 front axle housing to replace current front JK Dana 44.

Was told by tech guy at Randy's R&P to concentrate on coast side pattern because it is a reverse spiral cut.

What say you?

0.07? Are you sure it's not 0.007? I'm pretty certain that it should be between 0.008 and 0.015.

Nice catch...it is .007"

Given that does the pattern seem plausible!

It's a bit tight, but the pattern does look pretty good. It's centered well, not too deep or shallow on the teeth. How did the pinion feel when you turned it before you got the carrier installed?

Pinion preload was @ 30 in. lbs. with dummy outer pinion bearing and dummy inner pinion race. No thrust in or out, it seemed stable.

Do you agree with the Randy's rep that on a reverse spiral gear the coast pattern is somewhat more important than drive side?

Your pattern looks great. You don't want to concentrae on any one side no matter if front or back diff. It looks just fine just like you have it.

I am sure it's too late but everything I have seen says if you have a straight line on the bottom the pinion is too deep. Thoughts. Because looking at the pattern it seems ok.
