My wife & daughter use them for every entry and they love having them to use. I have the M.O.R.E steps that retract and really like them. I had them powder coated textured black to match the Rubi rails. I rarely use my door step unless I am on an off camber and need the extra 6" drop or so they provide.

Yeah, using them to keep your pants from getting wet or slushy whilebclimbing into a lifted jeep is a good reason to use side steps.

There nice for steps i guess not much different then Nerf bars though. if you plan on doing any serious off highway use you might wanna invest in some sliders.
I had some stock Rubicon rock rails they did just fine there still in the garage somewhere.
I installed PureJeep rock sliders 499.00
Welded them to my crusher corners and called it a day!

JCR Offroad Sliders here and I don't really use them for getting in, but the girlfriend does!

How effective are rails/sliders for use as a step? I can see myself already slipping and sliding on the stock steps when it gets snowy.

TNT step/slider is the way to go if you want the best of both worlds. They are very good priced and offer better protection than anyone in that price range that I know about. They are body mounted like everyone else in that price range but also have a connection into the frame. They also have a boat side panel that will make them even stronger. Super satisfied with mine.
