While I agree that it is always advisable to pay for quality in "value added" circumstances, is the AEV bumper vs. xxxx competitor's bumper really worth the added cost in terms of craftsmanship, quality, protection, functionality, etc. (I exlcuded style/taste as to each their own)?
I would argue, in this case, it is not. I'm just not seeing a premium value in the AEV bumper to justify the cost differential.
Just my 2¢...

Most other companies are doing just a single stage coating, and AEV is doing a three stage. It isn't cheap to e-coat all of the metal, and then do a two stage powder coating. Also once you start to get into the designs that move with the swing gate you are up to $1,300 for the cheaper ones, add an e-coat, and another powder coat, and they would end up being more expensive before getting into designing your own bushings that will work better than what is available on the market, etc...
Design is something that each person will either like or not like and be able to debate. Quality is not.

I now agree! After some tweaks and a new set of 35's I now REALLY am enjoying the AEV. Here's a couple of pics:
AEV with the MBRP rock rails just looks right together
Heidi guarding HER jeep with the new AEV bumper in place!
esthetics are in the eye of

But again, not everybody wants to pay that much for a carrier and a bumper ..... and that is ok. Everybody has their own threshold of cost vs worth.
