I'm not sure what it's coated with on the inside.
I welded my old Rubi rails shut and plumbed them for air. They worked but only held about 3 gallons. Also, the metal sucks. Welding it wasn't fun. I ended up selling them and getting a set of TeraFlex's step boatside rails... And getting a 5 gallon alum tank and put it where my muffler was.

Specifically looking for how low it hangs down.
I'll get you another pic when I get back to the office it sits higher than the hitch.

It's a pretty stout tank, I bet if it took a hard hit. It would cave in the sheet metal for the cubbie above before it split. Either way, it sits pretty high. Above the level of the hitch.

I get all antsy in my pantsy when I hear that I can put a 5 gallon tank on the Jeep. Do you think a muffler skid plate would fit over it? Just for that added protection?

Could probably fit a skid over it... But, Honestly I've never hit it on anything. And I wheel fairly hard with this JK...

I was thinking about the Rubi rails myself, oh well get the rock crawler exhaust and a 5 gallon where the old muffler went. That seems to be the best way to go.

Mounted my 2.5 gal Viair tank on the crossmember inside the front bumper. Need to make a better mount but was in a bit of a rush and had to use what I had on hand.
Mounted the compressor to the brake booster and ran the remote air filter up under the cowl. Vacuum booster took over the horn mount and the air manifold and Viair pressure switch/relay all went in front of or above the brake line manifold. Plumbing got routed just to outside and under the radiator but inside the frame rail. Worked out well and pretty much everything can be reverted back to stock very easily if needed. After months of researching mounting options for this tank, I was surprised I haven't seen this done.
