Default Wheels and tires...

Okay. Man I need some quick help. I am about to order wheels and tires for my 2-door jk x. I am ordering a 2.5" teraflex coil lift with shocks. so the wheel i absolutely want is the ProComp Series 7089 (cast black). now my dilemma is the size...

a few locals told me to go with 16x10 with a 12.5 wheel. However, i've seen a bunch of people on this forum going with 16x8 and 17x8's. Sincerely, which wheel size should I go with and why? I want to order these next week.

The tire I'll be running is the Nokian Vatiiva MT 33" or 305x70x?

Help Help.

Thanks
Jtr

16x 10 seems really wide. With a narrower tire you will have a better foot print when you air down.

If you plan on going to 35's or beyond, I think 17's would be the right choice. If you will never go past 33 either 16 or 17 will be fine. I wouldn't go wider than 9" though.

But when it comes down to it, what do I know?

Love the info! Thanks. Keep more coming. I do eventually plan to go to a 35" tire. Not until I'm ready to really do a long arm lift that costs about $27,000 it seems.

Default If you plan on wheeling

If you plan on wheeling, I would go with an 8" wide rim. This allows you to air down a bit on the trail and not risk popping a bead. You also may run into rubbing issues with a 10" wide tire, but that is based on what I have read on here, not on experience. I have also found that there is a lot of different size and types of tires to choose from with the 16" wheel. Good luck.

With the wheels you want definitely the 8" as you certainly wouldn't want to be at 9" wide. You'll also get all the tire height you're expecting. Also if the plan is to eventually run with 35s, I would go with the 17s.

Yup, I agree with JPop. If your looking at 35" in the fucture go with the 17 X 9's. The 10's will be too wide and you'll destroy them off-road. I like the black out wheels, but you may want to think about a wheel with a polished edge. They are way easier to maintain with all the scratches your going to get.

Thanks. Went with the 17x8 with 33x12.5x17. I'll post pics when installed.
