Default Wheels sticking out past fenders question

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has ever got a ticket because of this?

I have a 2012 sport and am thinking about putting on some pro comp 7069 with a backspacing of 4.5 and then getting some 285/75/16's.
So by my reckoning that would put the tire past the flare by 1 1/4" ish
Is this bad? Is there anyway around this or would I be ok?

In the state of new jersey, they have some strict laws regarding motor vehicles. Mine stick out more than that and they leave me alone. Now, knowing I just said that, I'll run into a problem...haha

That being said, I think you should be ok. anything sticking out 3"+ with a 4"+ lift, etc....thats an "eye-catcher" and probably would be an issue.

I have 285/70R17 on 17x8 with 4.5 backspacing. My tires stick out less than an inch from the fenders. You will be fine.

My buddy had a 2005 Ram with 15.50 wide tires on it and they stuck out about 3" on each side and no problems in Jersey.

Here in Hawaii they have some massive Mall Crawlers with wheels that stick out like a whole foot and never see them pulled over. However the law is if they aren't supposed to a d if lifted you need mudflaps and must get a recon sticker with your yearly safety inspection

I lost a driver's side mirror and got a nice little sting from my tires slinging rocks when they stuck out past the flares.

Depends on your localities.

What the law says in Sask, Canada is probably different from New Jersey. Also, your local cops may or may not be cool.

I drove around in a 4x4 in Michigan for three years with the tires sticking out a good bit and never heard boo. Cops didn't care at all.
I know others who had big huge lifted trucks and were constantly being harassed by cops who knew the laws or, worse, didn't know the law but thought they did.

FWIW, my 2 cents or loonies or whatever, I hate tires sticking out. I didn't have any choice on said vehicle but you end up with road shit all over your vehicle any time it isn't dry. Go wheeling? You're coated. Side vision sucks when the windows are coated in mud. Even in the winter I had road salt/dirt/crap grime all over the windows and sides all the time.

Same bs wheels and size of tires here in co.

My fenders cover most of the tire, but it sticks out about two inches on each side. I have gotten tickets in the last year, and even with narrower fenders than what's on now. Not even a mention from an officer about coverage, not a word.
