Default wheel width for duratrac 33x12.5r15

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! About time to get some new tires, and the wife wants to put large tires on small rims on HER (with emphasis) '08 Sahara JK. We are looking at getting procomp 8179's with Duratrac 33x12.5r 15's, and I am wondering people's opinions on going 15x8 versus 15x10 wheels? Will the duratracs fit either/or? This is a daily driver with a few trips out to Ocotillo Wells every year for some off-roading, but no rock climbing. Thanks for the info!

They will fit either. Confirm the wheels even fit the Jeep first. Most people go with an 8" wheel for 12.5 tires. 10" will probably stick out further and it's common belief that 8" holds the bead better, but who knows.

I had 33x12.5 tires on 15x8 rims for 3 years with great results.

Thanks for the confirmation, I think we're going to go with the 15x8's. They have 5 x 5 bolt pattern with 3.75 backspacing, so they should fit just fine!

8" better off road, 10" better on road.

10" better on-road as far as tread life or grip? I assumed they would be better off-road due to more surface area in contact with the ground, but I don't off-road very often. Thanks for the advice!

18 PSI is plenty for the off-roading I do! Thanks!

Another vote for 15x10 for GY DuraTracs 33x12.5

I just did the chalk test and at 34 psi I had well under a 1/2" on the outer edge of each tire that wasn't in contact with the road during regular driving. I am going to drop it to 33 psi and leave it there.

The extra two inches completely changes the look of the tire from a tall and somewhat skinny, squared off contact patch to a more rounded bulbous shape due to the stretched sidewall. Exactly what I wanted.

Whats your guys opinion on tires for mostly on road driving but weekends off road. Dry southern Ca dirt/rocks?
Also, opinions on Procal vs Superchips? Whats the difference? Availability for 2012 Rubi? Thx

I had a very similar tire and rim combo that you are looking at with the Procomp 8069 in the 15x8 size rims and the 33x12.5 Duratracs. No weird tread wear or appearance at all in over two years and +20K miles. I ran the tires at 30 psi and was very happy with ride quality. I think the 10 inch rims would look funny, and you would risk bead slip if you plan to air down off road, but that's just my opinion, get what ever you really want.
