Default wheel size question

I was all set to buy some Pro Comp 7189's in 16x8 so I could reuse a set of 285/75/16 Nitto tires that I have from my old truck but this is what the wheel guy told me.

"I have some in stock, I don’t think they’ll fit, but if you want them I have them."

I asked why and he replied,

"Jeep says most 16” aftermarket wheels won’t fit, rubbing on the brakes. Jeep recommends 17” and up only."

I know I have seen people running these Pro Comp wheels in a 16 " size.

Do you think this wheel will work OK. Does anyone have trouble with rubbing on the caliper?

It is a 16"x8" with a backspace of 4.5".Pro Comp 7189

Thanks for any advice.

You shoud not have any problem with that wheel and backspacing. Most of the problems were occurring with the 15" wheels that have more that 4" of back spacing. I am running 16x8 Cragar D-window w/ 5" of back spacing and no problems at all.

You could also ask him to test fit one with out the tire just to see if it clears the brakes that way there is no doubt.

I'm running 16x8 Craggars with 5" of backspacing. These jeeps come standard with 16" wheels. Your wheel guy doesn't know what he is talking about. And don't be afraid to tell him that. My 305/70/16's tread stick out of the stock fender flares just a little bit. With that backspacing you will just stick out another 1/2 an inch. If you have an '08... make sure your new wheel is designed for the tpms sensors.
