Default Wheel Backspacing

I ordered a set of ion rims last week that are 17x9 with 5" BS. I was out of town when they came in so dad went down to pick them up and they had ordered the wrong finish on them, but they went ahead an put one of the rims on to see how it would look. Dad said it stuck out way too far so now the guy at the wheel shop is trying to sell us on a few other sets that are 35-50 dollars more per wheel. Should the wheels I had originally ordered work and dad just doesn't like the look of them, or did I miss something?

If any of you guys are running 17x9's post em up and tell what the BS is on em!

Best shoots I fit don't have any from the front or back.. It's nice to have a wider stance when lifted I love the look of mine but 5" bs is more than mine maybe if you had 13.50 you would need that

I'm gonna be running a set of used 265/70 nitto terra grapplers until they're worn out and then I'm gonna step up to a set of 285/70's, probably a Falken

I'm running Nitto trail grapplers m/t an love em. But for the tires you have now it's going to look weird with skinny tires an such a big bs IMO but once you step up to the 285(33") it will look good... Do you have a lift ?

Almost any aftermarket wheel is going to have LESS than 5" of backspacing and stick out even more. Most aftermarket wheels that I have checked have about 3.5"-4.5". A wheel with 4.5" of backspacing will stick out more than your wheel with 5" of backspacing.

That's what I was thinking, but the guy at the wheel shop has my dad convinced that those wheels won't work because they stick out too far. I'm about to just say the heck with it and not even get new wheels/tires
