I would pull the dipstick and check the oil. When you test drive it listen for pinging from the motor. Honestly, many of the 3.8's do burn oil, especially when using the recommended 5W20. Many times going with a thicker oil will cut the consumption way down, as well as changing the pcv valve. If you do buy it, run at least 5W30 in it and it should be fine.

get under it , inspect all the motor parts see just what looks ok and what dosent After all its your money on the line . They wont mind taking it. ITS no insult to the owner , if he isn't hiding a sorespot
