Default What tire should I go with?

Hey guys, I am looking to put new tires on my JK. They will be going on stock 17" wheels. I think I have decided on Nitto Trail Grapplers but I'm hung up on what size to get between these:

295/70r17
285/70r17
285/75r17

Looking for opinions on which to go with.

I think they will rub without any wheel spacers?
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think those sizes you listed are 11" wide.

I'd go with the 295/70-17's. I think all the sizes you listed are gonna require wheel spacers to prevent rubbing with the stock wheels.

If they have a 305/65R17 go with it. It will have much larger tread blocks and bigger voids. It should be exact same size as the 285/70R17

Default Tire SIze comparison

The 305 will have a width of 12.008" and the 285 will have a width of 11.22" so there would be around a 3/4" width difference.
The overall height will be within .1 of an inch of each other. With 17" rims the 305 overall height will be 32.61" and the 285 overall height will be 32.709"

If I had to pick from those Id go with the 285 75 R17's. I really like the idea of a tall skinny tire.

I was assuming I will have to get spacers for any of the above. I'm just having a hard time deciding on which size to go with.

Between the three, will the differences visually be that noticeable?

^ if not then I will probably just go with the cheapest. I am just a little confused at how each size will look differently from the other.

Will the 295 stick out more because
It is a wider tire? Between the two 285's, the 75 will just have a higher sidewall from top of wheel to the top of the tread than the 70 correct?

The 295 should be about 3/8" wider than the 285/75. The 285 should be about 1/2" taller than the 295.

The diameter math is (width x aspect ratio / Metric conversion) x2 +Wheel diameter. For example a 285/75r17 would be:

(285x .75 / 25.4)x2 +17=33.83" diameter

To get just the tire width its 285/25.4=11.22" Width.

Ayways the 295 should stick out a tiny bit more (like 3/16") than the 285 on the same wheel.

Thanks rob awesome info.

I think I am leaning towards the 285/70r17 or 295/70r17... The 285/75r17 are around $40 more per tire.

Is the price difference because the 285/75r17 has more sidewall?
