Ok... I did the chalk test today and I came up with 52 psi. I only question my results because everyone else talks about the being in the 30's for their tires. Anyone else find their 33's in that range or you think something is wrong?

It's your Jeep, but there's no way a chalk test determined 52 psi is ideal. I run my 35" MTs at 32 psi and they're wearing perfectly.

Did you drive the Jeep or slowly roll it through several tire rotations during the chalk test?

What width wheels do you have? The tire height isn't as important as the width of tire and the width of wheel- but 52 is way too much.

I would guess 28-32 is where you need to be.

How many miles on these tires already? If the have a weird wear pattern already the chalk test might give an odd result.

I'd measure tread depth to check for uneven wear. If the tires have been run at too high pressure for a while then the center will have shallower tread depth.

I heard "Your crazy!" From those responses. Tires: Kelley Safari TSR M+S LT285/70R17 I went 5 mph or so and drove a little more than a football field. Pressure stared at 60 and the tires were warm and dropped it from there. It showed even across with a little of the edges still dark. Suggestions, comments?

Tires have less than 500 miles

Typically you don't have to drive that far, you want to go just enough to see where the chalk is coming off and 'attempt' to get it pretty flat.

I caught the 285 tires, but anything from 7-10" wide you'll still be good off with the pressures listed above. Anything over 40 is typically too much, mind you the factory recommends close to 35 or so.

Some of my runs were shorter but couldn't say for sure. I figured I would try it again a couple times. As for factory recommended I have not seen anything from them other than a max psi. Will look again though.

Thanks, I will report back tomorrow. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Sounds like you want to run them way up at the MAX pressure, so go for it.

But if you check your door placard or owners manual you might see a suggestion for running the stock tires somewhere down in the 30-35psi range. Does going up an inch in tire size really justify a 30psi increase in pressure? Nope. With a bigger tire, you can get away with a little less pressure.

No, I want too run it at the right pressure for the tire. I apparently cannot get this one through my thick skull enough to understand. I cannot say about this JK but with my old 07, I could get what you and everyone is saying. It's max pressure was 44 psi and running it in the 30's would compute with me tired brain. I am going to sleep on it and try again tomorrow.

Thank all of you! Till tomorrow...
