I did the Rustoleum bedliner on my grill but I laid 2 coats of the Rustoleum for plastic first. As for my headlight bezels, I sanded and shot those with textured black Rustoleum for metal, and finished the same bedliner spray.

I'm about to do this mod as well. I got a can of the black AEV and am going to try it. (It will match my black Savegres)
I'm also debating debadging the front as well.

I found some ACE paint that was labeled as lacquer paint and is ultra-hard. After priming and three coats of paint it was amazingly hard. Dropped the part in the ground by accident and there wasn't a scratch. It does have a high gloss finish though.
I think the "hammered" paint is supposed to be the most scratch resistant.

I used the rattle can version of plasti-kote for my antenna and emblem. Stuff works well, it's rubberized since it's a tool handle coating, and has a textured matte finish. Most guys just bedline them like everything else. Find a coating option you like and go for it.
