Superior is providing sleeves that go into the ring gear holes to make up the difference. This is the same thing that was done for the TJ Rubicon's when they first came out. I'll try to post some pics of them later on.

Uh-oh, did I do that - LOL!!!

Just know, on the highway running 75+, your RPM's will be slightly higher but and subsequently will burn a bit more gas but the upside to it is, you will now have passing power and a lot more fun

Thanks for the info. I was considering going with 4.88 but when I read this post it makes more sense to me to go with 5.13 for my Rubi with 3 inch FT lift and 35" tires. My rubi goes in tommorrow for the lift, Can't wait! Will post b4 and after pic's. I promise!

So, this is pretty much the best option for the Rubicon with an Auto then? The 4:88 is not really that much less in RPM and the lack of power of the JK can be improved x% just by going this route?

My tires are in, the lift will be here Friday and I still need to pick wheels...

Thanks for any insite.

well, that's a bit over 2% more revs per mile. The 35's are allowing you to travel 3% further with every revelution of the wheel, so it ought to even out, right?

Can someone tell me what kind of gas mileage they are getting after changing their gears to the 5.13 and 4.88. I'm going to regear, and I am curious if gas mileage will increase when I do. Right now I have a 6speed manual, 4.10 gears, and running 35's for tires. After lifting and installing tires I noticed a pretty good drop in gas mileage. I'm wanting to know if I would gain some of this back by regearing since the jeep would be able to pull itself on the highway again. Any info would be appreciated.

Default new member with a couple questions

my fiance' and i bought our jk unlimited in march, and so far we love it.this is my first experience with the newer jeeps.i grew up near lake tahoe, and cut my wheeling teeth on the rubicon.most of my experience is with older(yj) wranglers, and landcruiser fj40s.

so far im very impressed with the jk,and angela drives it daily back and forth to work.my plans for the jeep are a 2 inch lift and 33 inch tires.angela is only 5'2 and i cant get out of control with the height of the jeep.its not going to be wheeled very much, mostly driving around out in our pastures.since we live in texas there arent very many places to go rock crawling.

ive seen many posts on the gears everyone is running,4.88,5.13 etc etc.
ive seen no mention of 4.56 gears and 33 inch tires.we have the 4.10 gears in it now,and i dont think id have to change the carrier to run 4.56s.has anyone done this?i think 4.88s and 33s are just a bit too steep for what we do.id still like to be able to pull the boat well, but retain the fuel mileage that we now enjoy.-brian

no, seeing as the sahara tires are already 32ish it would not be worth it to re-gear for 33's.
