Default What gear lube?

Hey Jeeper's.

Putting gears and lockers on this weekend. Wondering what gear lube (70-90) everyone is using?
Synthetic? Non- synthetic? Right know I'm leaning toward Lukas.

I bought a 5 gallon bucket of GL-5 spec at an aution for $10 and works great. You are going to get about 10 different answers from people telling you what they run. Your manual will tell you what you need.

I've always used the cheap regular 85-140 running 5:38's.
Remember to change after the 500 mile break in.

I just ordered some Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-110 synthetic. I couldn't decide between 75w-90 and 75w-140 so this seemed like a good in-between lube. Should give some trail protection without affecting DD to much.

SAE 80W-90 (API GL-5) is what MOPAR recommends unless towing. I would use that for the gear break-in period (first 500 miles) during which time you should NOT be doing any towing or heavy off-roading. After break-in do a cleanout and wear inspection. Then you can go with full synthetic which should last you for the next 100,000 miles.

Not the most knowledgeable on gears and such...so after breaking in, what weight synthetic would you guys recommend for 4.88 gears? I may occasionally tow a light trailer.

use a 75-90 dino to break in. then switch to a 75-140 gl5 full syn. i love redline. however amsoil works well 2. Motul is some of the best oil made but extremely expensive

run a cheap full syn and change it often or run a better oil and keep it longer but then just check it more often
