Default 4.88's

Just put my gears in 2 weeks ago, went from 3.73 , 35's and auto to the 4.88's....I'm in Florida and they are working great. I drive mostly on the highway and can run 70-85 with no problem. My tires are actually closer to 34" so I don't know if that makes up the difference in how the 4.88's perform. At 70 I am turning 2350 rpms and at 80 turning 2700 rpms. I like the 4.88's but as a rule I would say the overwhelming majority of Jeepers like the 5.13's for the autos.

Oh and regardless of what gears you go with make sure you follow the gear break-in instructions, it's a pain in the a$$ but it's a must.

Plenty of answers. Use the search at the top right of the page. Type in Rubicon Gearing.

Thank you for all the responses. I am a bit confused. I few people think 4:88 Is the way but the majority vote for 5:13. My JK is an unlimited X model with Dana 30 front axel and 3:73 gears 4 Drs Auto. So Is 5:13 in my jeep Ok? Because my jeep is not a Rubicon!
I trust in you guys even though 5:13 looks very short to me. I think I will go with 5:13. Any other advises are welcome!

I just went from 3:73 to 5:13's and I have an automatic four door. You wont regret it!!! My advice is listen to those on the forum. I did and Im extremely happy with the choice. I have 315 75R17 (close to 35's) and I'm getting 17.1 around town.

Yes, REALLY! Didn't need your sarcasm, but thanks for pointing me to those threads. I'd honestly never thought to search for Rubicon only gearing options.

Another vote for 5.13s. It makes it far better than it was stock even with my 35's. For me 5.13s hit the sweet spot. Just go for it you will be very happy you did.

249 drive train is where i'm going to get mine done when the time comes. I had two other places, but found out one doesn't do gears and the other is good, but this place is supposed to great guys to deal with.

I see this question more than any other on on this forum, and with that; I would say if you run a 35" you should consider 5.13 with an Auto Transmission, or 4.88 with a Manual Transmission. That will be the best for the whole package.

Quick Reply: What gear with 35's auto 4 drs. 5:13 or 4:88?
