What is the deal with Duratrac???

I've been looking for some 315/70x17 dura-tracs as well. I wonder if the earthquake in Japan has anything to do with the scarcity. I know there were some other tire manufacturers over there that took a major hit.

I tried buying 5, 315 70 17 Duratracs 2 weeks ago and was told by 3 different big name places that it will be about 8 weeks plus. Today (Sunday Oct 9th) at the Off Road Show in Pomona Ca. Goodyear rep told me that the goverment and border patrol was buying up ALOT!......I'm guessing maybe something with the world falling apart in 6 months...LOL....who knows..... But the Goodyear rep did tell me about the "G"men and the border patrol buying them up..................Any way....I went ahead 2 weeks ago and purchased 35' B.F.G's KM2 as they were my 2nd choice. I could not wait ABOUT 2 months.....I needed them in a week or less.
P.S. Great deals at Discount Tire "DIRECT"....thats where I got my tires.
Travis in AZ is our on line rep on JK Forms.....http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.do

I was looking for the Duratracs in a 315/70r17's and could not find them ANYWHERE!. I decided to go with Falkens instead. Ran them this weekend on rocks, in snow and mud and they worked very good!. They were cheaper than the Duratracs and I believe the Falkens are a 3 ply sidewall, not 2 like the Duratracs (Icould be wrong here).

The Duratrac looks way more aggresive than the Falken. I did a side-by-side comparison at the store. I didn't like the look of the Wildpeaks when I saw them. Too passenger car-like IMO.

I've only seen the duratrac on the internet and they look good, but some people think
the duratrac look like a minivan tires....I hope that's not the case because I've also read some good reviews about the duratrac.

The Falken's do look like giant donut tires. I've seen them and even thought they perform well they still look like car tires. The Duratracs look mean and drive great. Goodyear is always backordered with certain products. They were backordered when I ordered my 35 MTRK's and when I just ordered my 37's. Its becoming quite common with them. Try finding a set of 40 or 42's and you'll be waiting at least 2-3 months.
