Default What is the deal with Duratrac???

Hello everyone,
Can someone help me find a set of Good Year Duratrac? I have check with all major tire dealers and they have told me that there is a
Nation wide back order.....I was was thinking about buying the MRT/R, but I've read that they are too loud!....I asked about these two
tires before and most people recommended the Duratrac, but now that they are not available; does anyone has anything positive or
negative to say about the MRT/R???

I love the Duratracs on my Grand Cherokee. They are light weight and can go anywhere. The MTRs are great too, but substantially heavier and louder. If you are looking for a good tire at a good cost, Kelly Safari tires are made by goodyear as well and are the same exact weight as the Duratracs.

Wait it out and get what you really want.

As for the MTRs, I don't find them all that noisy. Slight hum, but nothing that isn't covered by the stereo. The bigger issue is being careful with the MTR selection as there are some that just aren't a substantial enough tire for a JK and they will take a fair amount of weight to balance, even done on a Hunter 9000.

Knock of might be kinda harsh. It is just a "cool" marketing idea from Goodyear Dunlop. Kind of like Fusion and Bridgestone. Heard great reviews about them

Also Duratracs coming in at the end of month. At least that is what one place said to me.

Duratracs are probably sold out because they're good tires and they've sold well. I know that I love the pair that I run as winter tires (studded, too)

I have had both the MTR and MTR\K in 37's. I couldn't hear any of them over the stereo. The newer style took a little more weights to balance at first. But after your first tire rotation have them balanced again and they will take less weight.

When I am due for new tires I will definitely be getting GY MTRK's again.

Thanks everyone for your great input...I think I will wait a little bit for the Duratract, if they take too long to release them, I will buy the MTR/R.

Do you know how much they weigh compared to the Duratracs?

They used to be made by Goodyear and it's subsidaries Dunlop and Kelly. http://www.offroaders.com/tech/AT-MT...ttitude-MT.htm

I believe the 35" Fierce's are just over 62 pounds and the 315 Duratrac is 60 pounds. The 315 is .4 inches smaller in diameter, 34.8 vs. 34.4. I've had mine for about 3000k miles and so far I'm happy with them.
