So why get a red top Optima then? Don't yellow tops have problems with starting in cold (thought I remembered a post on that at one point)? Damned if I'll spend over $150 for a battery with crappy limitations.

Have you looked at the price of a yellow top lately?

I have run dual yellow tops in my XJ for about 6 years. The last time I replaced one it was $200!!! It's the last yellow top I'll buy. That is just outrageous. The guy at the store said something to the effect that the price of the battery had been raised about $50 in the past year because the price of lead had gone up.

I asked him what I could get a plain old battery for. About $50. Sort of defeats the lead argument if you ask me.

I have found that the yellow top doesn't have a particularly long life, either. As I said, I run two in the XJ. I end up replacing one every year, or about a 2 year life per battery. At $200, that's just too much for me. I can buy 4 of those $50 batteries for that.

Just an opinion.

I saw yellow top tops at Sam's club for less than $200.

If you want the best.. I've ran both Optima and Odyssey... The Odyssey will out perform the Optima anyday..

This is the direct replacment but there is better / larger models..

Plus a 4 year warranty...

Again "This is my Opinion"...

we run those in our.....umm "vehicles" at work (sorry OPSEC) and we kill the shit out of Odysseys due to vibration and inpact. We are actualy switching BACK to optima's due to that.

These battery topics are going to confuse just about everyone that reads them, so I won't even try and post which is better, etc. etc.

But I will say, give the HDX line a look (from 4wheelparts). Saves you a bit of money over an Optima, and isn't any lessor of a battery.

Yup, you just need to shop around. I was speaking generally of Optimas and on Amazon they have a red top for $150 and a yellow top for $170.

Default Just when I thought it was safe...

to go buy the yellow optima...all the excitement starts...!

Finally this time it was before my purchase....I think I'll watch for a bit longer....

Think I've convinced myself on the 12k Warn but with the plate options / mount possibilities to even be placed on the RV I fortunately was delayed in the purchase - now I can learn a bit more!

Thanks guys jeep - I mean - keep it up!

interstate makes red and yellow top batteries. they are exactly the same as the optima battery - do some checking. they are the same battery. the interstate one just costs about half as much.
