First of all great thread!

The differing results with different bolts could be due to the threads being dry or oiled when installing. This could be why some are having breakages and some are not. Those that clean out with brake cleaner will definitely have dry threads.

The supplied Riddler bolts are SAE5 Grade bolts (indicated by the 3 lines on the head of the bolt) they ARE NOT stainless steel, (they're zinc plated steel) with a maximum torque of 17 foot-pounds dry and 13 foot-pounds oiled.

On a grade 12.9 5/16 x 18 tpi socket head bolt the maximum recommended torque is 29 foot-pounds IF the threads are dry and 23 if they are oiled.

Any stainless bolts should not be used! Their max torque would be around 10 foot pounds. Almost all socket head cap screws are grade 12.9. It will be marked on the top of the head if you are not sure.

running solids and lubelockers, that torque spec is crazy. I just tightened them, no torque wrench.. great setup, and I used the stock bolts as well.

I agree with Bosox5, just tighten the bolts down then give it one extra pull. I've had mine on for 2 years now without issues.

Aaarrrgh...

Didn't see this thread until it was too late. 1 broken bolt. Sad part is...I knew looking at the bolts that came with the Riddler covers 35 ft-lbs was way too much. Sure enough..BING. Thankfully only the one broke.
