Warn winch dissembly
Does anyone know how to remove this ring gear? I'm having a ton of trouble getting it off, it seems there is something in forgetting. I'm about to start busting at it with a hammer. Ha

I rebuilt my entire M8000 last winter. Some parts were a bit more difficult to get apart than others, but everything went relatively smoothly, overall. Try spraying some lube on it and letting it soak for a bit. I had to do this a couple of times to pry things loose.
If you really get stuck (pun absolutely intended) with anything on the rebuild, then call Warn's customer service dept on the West Coast. I don't think they are there on the weekends, but they were 1000% helpful when I ran into a few glitches with my rebuild. For their exemplary customer service alone, I would never buy another winch but Warn!
Good luck!

X2 should slide I belive.
I know mine would not allow the winch to go into free spool. I pulled the cap and same thing thought it was a hidden snap ring or something. Sprayed pb blaster on it then roughted it up with a rubber mallot and dead blow and it finaly poped out.
Lubed it up and seems fine now. Good luck!

Jesus - What did you do to that poor winch? It looks like it was full of mud rather than grease.
This makes me want to replace my powerplant with one of the newer waterproof ones.

I am in no way an expert on this, but rust= water penetration, which should not happen if the winch is new (unless it has been submerged!). BTW, has it been submerged?
Also, there does seem to be a lot of grease on that thing...when you rebuild it, you will not need that much.
Your best bet regarding replacement parts is to call WARN and/or look on their website for authorized dealers. Here's a link to one nearest you: http://www.warn.com/corporate/authservicecenters.shtml
I used Hoax's 4 Wheel Drive in West Virginia. Overall, they were very helpful and nice.
Good luck on the rebuild! I used plenty of brake cleaner to degrease my M8000. For what it's worth, I sanded it down and painted everything, too. I figured that since I had come that far, might as well rebuild the whole damn thing! Ended up not saving a penny, but had a blast!
