Default Trimming fenders for no rub with 33's

Hey folks! New guy here--I've searched a lot on this question but have always only seen "33's will rub when flexing off-road" but never really any solutions other than a lift.

I'm looking at getting new wheels (Level 8 trackers) and tires (Duratrac 33x12.5x15), but as of right now, I don't have the need or cash for a lift. I'm running a bone stock JK sport (with steelies, currently).

Next year, my buddy and I were thinking about going to Moab, which will probably be as intense as I get with wheeling. I go off-road occasionally but don't really like the way the stock tires look/perform.

If I put 33's on, I know that I should be fine on the road, but how bad will rubbing be off-road? If I ditch the air dam and trim the fenders or get new ones, should that prevent any rubbing while flexing? Just looking for preventative ways to avoid rubbing while (currently) without a lift.

Thanks!

You should be just fine with 33's and cut flares. Surely others who have run the setup will chime in

You'll rub without a fender chop, no biggie though. I partially popped of a rear flare once before chopping.

Thanks guys. If I trimmed the fenders, would I be good to hook even when disco'd?

Could you elaborate a little more? Do I still need to do this if I trim the fenders, or is it one or the other?

I ran 33x12.5x15 on my 07 with cut fenders and no rub at all. I also have 15" soft 8's with a lot of backspacing (wheels). I now have a 13 rubi with same wheels and tires non cut fenders and rubs a little at full flex.

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks! Now to come up with the scratch for a new set of tires and wheels...

I trimmed my fenders and pinch seams and added 2.5" rear bump stops (hockey pucks). Next week I will put on 35's on stock rims with Spidertrax spacers.

Those Soft 8's are cheap and look great! Thats what I installed when I went with 33's with no lift and I did not cut the fenders. My advice, someone chime in here if I'm wrong, is to go to Moab without cutting the fenders. Because once you cut them you cannot reverse. When out there, IF you rub, then you can easily trim them out there (just don't leave the cuttings on the trail).
