Trektop or Trektop NX??

Trektop or Trektop NX??
So I have decided to purchase a soft top. I really like the look of the trektop and have a great deal lined up locally for a used one. Was wondering if people thought the NX was worth the extra money? Also, how long does it take to put the trektop from fully up to fully down?

I would go for the NX as it allows for much more flexibility. The windows cannot be removed from the Trektop. The NX allows for different configurations including a safari top.
Both tops can be removed or put on fairly quickly (not counting initial setup). Neither top is great to take off while on the road. It doesn't fold back and stow like the factory top.
I sold my factory to and got the NX and am really pleased.

My NX is about to ship, so I can't really offer much advice. However, I did loads of research before buying, and after reading tons of threads on the Trektop and Trektop NX, I would have never bought the Trektop.

What bout if you could pick up a trektop for $350? Basically half the price of a new NX.

I have never had the regular trektop but after having the trektop nx it is definetly worth the money, all the windows come out and it can be run as a bikini the time to put it down is not much longer than the factory top when down I just place it where the factory soft top rests I don't feel like it is going to go anywhere but I bought some elastic Velcro straps from HD and strap it to the rollbar just in case! It's a great top but as you can read in other posts a real PITA to get on the first time until it stretches!

I've had my NX for almost a year now and the Hardtop has been hanging from the garage ceiling every since.
It took me several tear downs and installs to figure out the best way.
Now I can remove it and install my mess top in less then 30 minutes. I can remove the mess top and install the NX in about 30 minutes. The windows can be removed and stored in back in <10minutes. They can be reinstall in about 15 mins.. - windows include the rear window also.
Times are not for speed just a relaxed pace.
the side windows can fit in the back with one semi fold, the rear window can roll loosely and fit in the back. 2DR. Also in the back is a small backpack of tools and an ViAir compessor. there's not a ton of room but they can fit loosely for on the trail driving.
The rear bar for the rear window is not very user friendly and alot of people get the OEM bar.. which I plan to do some day.
This is the only soft top I have owned.... sometimes I do wish I had the OEM top that would just fold down. For the price I like the NX and I've got to where I can work it pretty fast...
personnaly I wouldn't want a soft top that I couldn't rip down to differnet levels... for that reason I would say it's worth the extra $
hope that helps.

I agree with the NX.
I have the NX and often have the sides taken out and stored in the back of the jeep. It allows for quick installation for full top in a moment's notice.
Be prepared to lose some cubes in the back of your jeep.
Also, the tailgate bar that comes with the top is a PITA, so I would recommend getting an OEM style tailgate bar.
Good luck.

Well when I ordered from Quadratec last week, the NX was marked down to 575 with free shipping, so that's only 200 bucks or so more. I think I would still go for the NX. I read threads from back in I think 07 or 08 from the original Trektop, and through all the modifications that have been made over the years, and people were still not happy with it. Then the NX came out, had one or two changes, and people have generally loved the top. I dunno man, I'd still go NX, but if you're on a budget, maybe go for the original. Would hate to spend that money going the cheap route only to hate it and be out the money when you get an NX, lol.

I started out with the Trektop and then bought a Trektop NX. The NX is much more enjoyable and can be configured in different ways. The biggest plus is how easy it attaches to the windshield. It attaches with a hinge setup rather than having to use bolts, which were horrible. Get the NX, you will love it!
