Ok so I'm getting ready to throw a 4" lift on my 07 unlimited sahara with 4:10 gears. How do ensure this doesn't happen to me?

Get your caster set correctly. Who's lift are you installing on your JK? I had a shop owner tell me that you have to run 17 degress on a JK. And he wondered why the t-case exploded. FYI I am running 3.2-3.4 of caster on my JK with a TeraFlex 4" LA kit.

Also you need to maintain your aftermarket driveshafts.

On the single ujoint the pinion was level with or along the same centerline as the output shaft of the transmission. This would work for the front since the front end is designed almost like that right????
This is Tom Woods website. Look in Tech Info --> What type of Driveshaft
hxxp://www.4xshaft.com/
This has the pics you are referring to and some info on the angles for both types of shafts. Look through the rest of the site for more great info.

so if you were to go with a 4 inch lift, like this one http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_jk_4flex.html, you would have to get a new driveshaft?

if you have 2-door, yes, you will need to get a new rear shaft sooner than later and, if you have an automatic, you will need to get a new front shaft. if you have a 4-door, you can make your rear shaft last for a while longer and the same is true up front if you have a 6-speed

Ok, so I should look at investing in new dirveshafts sometime in the near future after I get my 3" or 4" inch lift (either FT or TF)? again I have a 6sp, 4:10 ratio, 07 sahara.

thanks wol. ive decided to dot go with that lift anyway and just go with one a inch or so shorter. I think imma go with this one instead http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_jk_2perf.html or possibly this one http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_jk_combo.html but is there any disadvantages to a body lift besides exposing the frame slightly, and may cause weakness and body shifting in a inpact crash. What are the advantages, besides getting more lift height without sacrificing pinion angle and such?

My regards are to the starter of this thread. Didn't mean to hijack but it happened.

yes, sometime in the future. being that you have an unlimited and a 6-speed, i'd be willing to bet that you can make your factory shafts last for a while.

Too many variables to answer that, just make a habit of crawling underneath and checking both driveshafts.

With a bit over 3" on my unlimited, I lost the front shaft at the tcase with just 4-5k of on-road driving. Many people are still on stock shafts with higher lifts and 20-30k. Just depends.
