Driving down highway at about 65, all of a sudden got a nice loud vibration from under the JK. Immediately pulled over and looked underneath....Fluid pouring from my transfer case.

So The t-case needs replaced and I am going with an Atlas 2-speed 4.3:1 ratio.

Anyone running one of these?

What is the cause of the failure so others can possible avoid the mistake.

Couldnt really tell what cause was.

The guy I took it to said something about a bearing in the case locking up.

I do have Tom woods driveshafts.

Whether it was the driveshaft or the case, couldnt tell.

Mine didnt explode like that, was pretty minor, but the description of what happened is prob right...except for the regear...

o2dac2000 what did this set up run you? This transfer case problem seems to be becoming the new thing

Do both of you have an 08 Unlimited? Also, was this the bearing that locked up?

Seems to me that upgraded shafts with flanges at the t-case and tall gearing is a recipe for disaster on NV241 cases.

This seems kind of odd because isn't this the same transfer case thats in the Ram 3500 HD with towing package etc? One would think if it could handle the stress of such a heavy truck towing a fifth wheel it should be able to handle a JK with bigger tires...

They are stating to fail because most of the after market shafts dont reuse the factory dust covers or present a new one, therefore dirt is getting into the bearing and causing failure.

I have both front and rear after market shafts from two different companies and both did NOT come with replcement dust covers. I could not reuse the factory ones becuase they didnt fit. So it is just a matter of time before mine goes.

We are just starting to see the begining of a new problem that was overlooked with the instalation of after market driveshafts. Poor design from the aftermarket driveshaft makers becuase they wanted to get their product out on the street before the other guy.
