Angry trackbar weld snap?!?

while out wheelin for the day (nothing extremed by any means) we where headed out on a smooth dirt road when the steering shook back and forth really bad, luckily only a mile from the pavement. So I look under there and the whole tracbar assembly (I think) has snapped clean off the axle. It has 3 points of connect, 2 horizontal, 1 vertical. the horizontal ones broke at the weld and the vertical one actually sheared right through the metal bracket about an inch off the axle!!! Is this a common problem? What would have caused this? Is this something the warranty will cover? I dont hear from the dealer till monday as the 24 hour towing would only take me to the closest one (2 hours from home) and they arent even open till monday.

Would they just have to replace the whole front end since its welded together? I dont imagine the dealer is going to re-weld it?

with the minor offroading we've done, I am very paranoid now to have this kind of break.

thanks
Nick

Were you using an axle mounted trackbar relocation bracket in the front? If you were, then yes, it is a common problem for the bracket to break from the axle. An adjustable trackbar is a better option for a 3" lift. You can have a welding shop re-attach the broken braket and reinforce it. I doubt the dealer will cover it, unless they installed the lift

I am not really sure if the lift kit came with a relocation bracket to tell you the truth. so is a reinforced new weld going to help prevent this in the future? Can anyone recommend any better aftermarket parts here?

Sorry,

I've heard nothing but good things about Full traction and Teraflex. Either way, you are going to need a local shop weld, and preferably gusset, the existing factory mount.

awesome, thank you Justin.

So is this a fairly common issue/weak point on the JK? Or is this something that usually needs to be addressed with the aftermarket trackbar hardware?

well the dealer is saying that it is definately a flaw with the lift kit for not including an adjustable trackbar as it changes the angle to greatly for the stock trackbar. So I am working with fabtech, hopefully they will take care of things here.
