Default track bar bolt snapped

well it was a rather wild ride for my wife the other night. I got a call at 130 in the am when she was coming home and said the Jeep took off on a mind of its own at 65 mph . she got it stopped with wrecking .

I went up there thinking that the track bar bracket failed, but I have adj track bars so I didn't think it would stress it out.

The left bolt on the rear track bar snapped right off and left the nut with part of the bolt in the bracker whil the track bar slipped out.

needless to say all the factory track bar bolts have been upgraded to grade 8s

WOW, glad she was not hurt. What grade are the factory bolts. You would think they would be a better grade. The control arm ones are.

Holy cow, I'm glad to hear no one got hurt but I was wondering, what kind of adjustable track bar did you have and... how many ft. lbs. of torque did you tighten the bolts to? Because they should have been tightend to 125 ft. lbs. of torque with the entire weight of the Jeep on the ground. And, just because you used grade 8 bolts doesn't mean a whole lot as bolts are rated in tension, not sheer. If they were loose at all, you could of had enough movement in them to fatigue and fail.

The factory bolts are a metric 10.9 which is pretty much the equivalent of a grade 8. But again, this doesn't mean a whole lot if they weren't tightend to the appropriate torque setting.

they were all torqued to 120 with red locktite to prevent the loosening.

I figure the bolt snapping was probably a freak thing but I did not want to take chances, I usually replace all hardware when I do lifts to prevent this, but figured it had such low mileage, it was ok. my bad.

The trackbar the adjustable that came with his kit.
