Toyo Open Country RT

I'm going to have to trim on my jeep a lot before the next time I wheel, but it's worth it for these tires, they seem to grip well, I was able to climb the back of a 9 car hauler about 1.5-2 feet off the ground last night, and I don't think I could have done that before without a lot of tire spin and other drama and it just climbed right up it

Took the new rig with the most recent round of modifications out to Uwharrie for a test run...
Couple of notes..Toyo Open Country R/T 37x12.50r17
1) I have a 2015 JKU running 3.21 gears
2) I am running the complete 4in Old Man Emu kit with Rock Krawler adjustable front lower control arms.
3) I am running Spidertrax 1.5in spacers.
Review:
Basically, I love the R/T's. I installed them last weekend along with the lift and a set of 17in Fuel Anza's.
1) We were very surprised at the weight of the 37s. We basically decided that the R/T 37's were roughly the same weight as my old 35in Mickey Thompson MTZs.
2) So far, the 3.21's are spinning the R/Ts just fine. Yes, I'll need to regear at some point.. but for now, they're doing just fine even at 80MPH.
3) They are quiet. They have just enough noise to let you know you're on larger tires, but even with the doors off, I can hear myself think..
4) For what I paid for the tires ($296/each), I really can't recommend these tires strongly enough. They handle remarkably well on the road (I commute 200 miles a week for work), they WAY outperformed my expectations after a day on the trails and were the perfect blend of aggressive looking tires and comfortable ride I'd been looking for...
Offroad:
1) Spent the day at Uwharrie running everything from easy to moderately difficult. I would have run the most difficult trail at Uwharrie but my bumper and winch is not installed yet so I didn't have the clearance I needed to run the front side of Daniel
2) at 50MPH on the logging trails to and from the trailheads, the tires in combination with the OME lift was remarkable. We aired down to 16psi and there was very little mushiness to the tires...again, very surprised at how well they handled. Not quite like street riding.. but close
3) On the rocks the side walls balooned well and added additional protection to the wheels to prevent scuffs. I can't really describe the way they handled other than to use the analogy of a baseball glove.. it's as if they "caught" the rocks and held them until the rest of the jeep cleared the obstacle.
4) There are some fairly sharp rocks on the trails at Uwharrie and I did not notice any gouging, cutting or pitting of the treads. I did chunk the driver front tire because I cut hard right coming up an obstacle and stuffed the tire into a metal bracket on the stock bumper. Once I replace the front bumper I won't have that issue any more....

Nice write-up Michael... I am enjoying mine as well... they really handle the curbs at the mall!! I can't wait to to test them out at Uwharrie but it may be a while since I am preparing for the Jeep Mutiny. Having the U-joints, bearings and ABS rings pressed on to my new axles today and 4:88's installed tomorrow.
Can't wait to see your bumper and winch on!!
