Towing my wifes prius to texas from socal
I have researched this, and understand the max towing capacity of the jk. My jk unlimited is a 2012 3 inch lift on 35's. 4.56 gears. Curb weight of the prius is 3,096lbs. How hard on the jeep would this be? its a 1700 mile drive.
Thanks
Thanks

Stay under the 3500 lb limit and you'll have no problems. Go over the limit a bit and you'll still have no problems - other than any liability issues you run across, of course.

Looking at a trailer as of now. Any input on the two?
Yeah I have noticed the liability issue. I should be good at about 3500lbs. Not trying to set a land speed record on the way there

I have taken several 10-12 hour drives from Colorado down to Texas and back up, towing either a boat or a 6x12 enclosed uhaul. Both are over 3k, depending on load could be closer to 3500, and have had no problems other than the general gutlessness of my 3.8. No issues with braking or swaying or over-heating.
(2008 4door auto, factory tow pkg, trans cooler, 4" lift, 35's, 5.13's & 5.38's).

If you've got an auto it's generally recommended to have a trans cooler in the first place regardless of towing or not. It certainly wouldn't hurt to get one, but without one, be aware that you could be setting yourself up for many stops to let the fluid cool down.
You say you want to tow it- what's the weight on the trailer? I think you'll come out closer to 4k at least if you do a full trailer. A dolly would be more in line with keeping the weight minimized next to just flat towing.

When I made a cross country move a year ago I looked at towing or getting the car shipped. The u-haul and gas where about as much as shipping the car, I opted to have my car shipped for $500. It looks like San Clemente to Texas will cost about $565 for the trailer and putting your car on a truck is about $825 via national transport llc. I would look at shipping your car and save the headache and gas.

Even saying the word Prius makes me puke in my mouth. When moving there's always some things that are just ok not to takin with you. Might throw this into that idea box of "ok to leave behind" lol! Jk you'll be fine. I'd straight pull that...car....
