Tires on stock wheels
Will 33 X 12.5 tires fit on the stock X wheels? I believe I would have to run a set of Spidertrex 1.5 spacers, but not sure.

My stock X rims are steel 16x7.0, and I've been told that they WON'T work with 12.50's. When I get new tires (285/75--no time soon$$), I'll have to spring for 16x8 rims.
I'd check my build sheet to see WHICH wheels you have, since there's several different sizes
Sahara and Rubicon usually have bigger rims, as do some x's

On my 04 dodge ram 3500 CTD I placed a 33x12.5 on my stock 17X7 alloy rim. It was not really recommended by the tire sheet specs....but I had no issues with running them on 7" wide rim.

That'd save me serious money! The 285/75R16's are close to 32.8x11.2x16, which I like because it's narrower.
Thanks for the update
any air-down situations?

in 2007 the Sahara came with painted 17x7.5's ~ the 18's where optional.
the 2007 X's came with 16x7 steelies's, the 16x7's Aluminum's where optional, later on in 2007 to 2008 the 17x7.5's where available on the upgrade packages to the painted Sahara wheel, not the machine faced 17x7.5" Rubicon wheel. (The only difference between the two 17's is one is painted, the other machine faced, dimensionally they are identical) So it mostly depends on the year of the Jeep, then whatever options where selected during ordering.
course if the dealer liked to play with his wrenches, all bets are off. One of the semi-local dealers to me will swap pieces all day long to make sales.

I run ProComp Extreme AT 285/75/16 on stock steel. Tire specs for a 7.5" rim but I have had zero issues running as low as 15psi. No spacers, no rub. But I also do not disco (need longer brake lines first)
