Default Tires and Spacers

Hey y'all I am new to the Jeep world I have had my 2009 JKU for over a year and half and I love my jeep but it is almost time to change my tires. So I am in the market at looking different tires. I want to get some wider tires to give it a better stance than stock. I am looking at 285/70/17. Until I get my Jeep paid off, I will not put 35's, lock, and re-gear it. My question is do I need spacers for these tires? I have a 2.5 inch lift if that helps. I am curious because discount tire will not touch my jeep if it has spacers so I want to know if it is necessary.

You have double checked that? Their company policy on spacers has changed semi-recently. Both of my local shops will balance/rotate mine with spacers on, but individual shops may still choose to not work with them.

A 33x10.50 is the standard answer for biggest tire size on stock rims without rubbing. Just be aware that all tires are not created equal, some are bigger/smaller than others, even though the same size is stamped on the side.

X2 on the Discount Tire change of policy. My local DT now will deal with spacers as long as they are bolted on.

Regarding the need for spacers with that size tire, my boring build thread might be worth reading.

Yes u need spacers. I have 285/70/17 falken wildpeaks and they rubbed for the first few weeks until i got 1.5" spacers. At about 3/4 lock the inner tire will rub on the sway bar.

So even with spacers I will still rub when I turn all the way? I also have a 2.5 inch lift so would that change things?

So with my 2013 Rubicon I've added the Rugged Ridge 1.5" spacers. I kinda like the look of the Rubicon Wheels...But I'm thinking about 33's...I've only found 33x12.50 17s in the tires I like...will they fit on stock wheel? Would the spacers stop them from rubbing? Or is the rubbing more on the stock bumper? I'm thinking of cutting it down and installing the stubby covers...
