Another factor that comes into play is the tire sidewall height. If you are running 15-16" inch wheels with 35" tires the tire sidewalls will be taller and hence can bulge easier and provide rim protection to accommodate a narrower rim (like the factory 7.5's). Different side wall construction (material and number of plies) will heat up more when always flexed (bulged). A larger wheel 17-18" with the same width and 35" and tire pressure is more likely to cause crowning of the tread.

Like others have said, many combinations will work (no catastrophic failure), but there will be some penalty in mileage, durability or handling. Just decide what you are comfortable with.

i'm running a 35/12.50/15 on a 8" wheel. no problems.
