Default Tire / Wheel Question

Okay, so I've done some reading and understand the basics of wheel/tire diameter.

My question's about width only.

An example, can I run a 10" tire on an 8" width wheel, or a 12" tire on 10" wheel?

I'd like to run 32x10's on 16x8 rims until I do a lift later on, and then swap to 35"s. Can I do this, or do I need 10" rims.

You have to!!! Not can I. The tire width has to be larger then the rim width. A 10" tire on a 10" rim will just keep losing the bead and not stay on. Mine are 12.5 on an 8" rim.

Yes. 16x8's would be perfect.

I have got 35x12.50 on 15x8's.

Guy at the tire place said I needed 10" wheels for those tires, but put them on anyways and told me to watch for any stress around the rim. I knew plenty of people were running this setup so I knew I was fine.....

anything bigger or wider, I will prob get a 10" rim. But that will be a while.....

Great, thanks. I thought this was the way it worked but just hadn't found anywhere that said it outright.
