Default Tire/Wheel assistance for New Guy.

I've read the sticky over and over amongst other posts from forum members and I've come to accept that I will never understand backspace and offset.

Currently ordered to be able to clear as close to 35' tires is:

TF 2.5 Lift w/ Shocks. http://www.northridge4x4.com/proddet...rod=TF-1251000 and Bushwacker Flared Fenders

I want to run 17x9 Procomp's 7005 on as close as I can get on 35" Nitto Terra Grapplers but dont know which rim to choose to go with which sized tire and if SPACERS will be needed.

PLEASE HELP!

PROCOMP Direct Site: http://www.northridge4x4.com/proddet...rod=TF-1251000

Nitto Terra Grappler Direct Site: http://www.northridge4x4.com/proddet...rod=TF-1251000

Thanks Fellas.

A better phrase would be "4.5 is safe". There can be a fairly substantial difference in both height and width for a 35x12.50 from different mfg's, and even a 35x12.50 for a 16/17/18" rim from the same mfg.

Ugh, still difficult to get a grasp of. I was also looking into 18x9 XD Monsters. Problem is they give 3 different offsets -12, +18 or +35. WTF!!

Backspace only refers to the wheel correct?

As long as I find a tire that will hold the correct width of my wheel I am good to go

Yes, backspace only refers to the wheel/rim, not the tire - but it does affect the tires you can use since BS will determine how far into the wheel well, or how far out of the wheel well, the tire will sit.

Try this:
https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...do-they-relate

The -12 will have the least backspace. (the tire/wheel will be pushed out the furthest.
The +18 should be a bit less than the stock backspace.
The +35 ... really ?? You would need to replace your axles with something wider.

So if I wanted to have extra clearance wouldn't it just be ideal to go w the -12 or should I try to keep it stock. Would I need spacers for either?

Is there an ideal backspace? I just don't understand why it's so important.

Backspace in general is used to provide side to side clearance for your tire from the working parts of you axle/hub. Having your tire rub things like your draglink is bad (take may word for it). I am running 17x9 pro comp 7069s with 4.5" of back space (the accepted limit) add to that I am running tires that are 13.5" wide and have no problems you will be fine with a similar setup.

Love the ride, thx for the pics. What front bumper is that?

Also, if I need more backspace i can add 1.5 spacers correct?

The BS on the stock rims is about 6.25".
Most of the lift MFG's recommend a 4.50 BS for 35x12.50's. The -12 offset should be pretty close to that.
Going with more BS will pull the tire/rim back into the wheel well, and depending on the tire height/width, could lead to some rubbing.
If you go with something close to the stock BS, you will want spacers to move them out. (this kinda defeats the purpose of buying new rims.)
