Tire size Q..16 vs 16.5
I have 16 inch rims and in my search for some used 37's I have run into an odd size. I have found tires out there that are 16.5 What gives...I am guessing that as close as this may be they will not work???

Some of the more heavy duty trucks and the military use the 16.5" size. The military started using it to prevent mounting of unrated tires. Originally tires in 16.5 came rated no lower than E, but I believe you can get more ratings now.

Back in the old days 16.5 were the norm, 16's didn't become the norm til GM started using them on passenger cars. The 16.5 is a LT designation (light truck). You CAN mount the 16.5 on a 16, and yes you might center and seat the tire and YES IT WILL KILL YOU. Never mix rim sizes between tires and rims, no matter how slight. NEVER.
