Default Tire size??

Hey guys. I have a 2008 jeep wrangler unlimited and am considering getting new tires. At first I wanted to go 35 but after reading several threads I was kinna pushing on 40s. Any opinions/advice in the question? All comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Before you jump from stock to such a huge tire size, you need to think about the additional cost you will have to pay for additional items, such as a lift, upgraded axles, gearing, driveshafts, gussets etc. To put a 37 and above tire on a Sport, X, Sahara with a Dana 30 up front, you are going to need some type of reinforcement such as sleeves or gussets to be safe. Even a Dana 44 may require some beefing up as well. Plus you need enough lift to clear the tires, which may require new driveshafts. Plus regearing if you want the driveability back.

O I know. I have already planned on a 6 inch lift/suspension with front and rear driveshafts. And gussets?

Don't forget your gears. Since you're going 40's, 5.38 gears would probably be better than 5.13.

I don't see details on your rig?

40's on D44 axles? a D30 axle? a JKU? a JK?

I have 38's on dual 60's and was told a JKU should have a full float D60 rear for reliability. Are you trying it on a D44?

Alabama has mud. You will spin your splines with 40's and pretty much any shafts you can fit in a D44.

Big bucks for the tires. Big bucks for the upgrades. 6" of lift will force you to limit uptravel on those 40's.

This isn't happening ANYTIME soon. But just asking. What's the difference between a jk and a jku?
