Default Tire size for an 08 JKU with 3.73 gears...

Posted this on another forum, but wanted to get some feedback here as well...

Still shopping around for the right tires.......I'm leaning towards the Nitto Trail Grapplers.

My 2008 JKU has 3.73 gears.

I'm going to add a 2.5" lift when I add my new tires and wheels.

I've been looking at 285/65/18's, thinking that I'd be okay with my current gears, etc.

IF.......I decided to go to 295/70/18, would I still be okay with my gears? I believe this is Nitto's size in between the 33x1250 and the 35x1250. I know going to 35's can open up a can of worms with other necessary mods, etc. Would I be okay with the 295/70/18 without having to do anything else other than the lift?

Yeah, the guy at our local 4x4 place said I shouldn't have any issues either. I guess if I went to 35s it'd be different?

I'd really like to go 295/70/18 if I can.

35's for a 2.5" lift with 3.73 gears is no problem. I have an '08 unlimited with that exact setup, 3.73(up to 5.13's now tho) gears, manual trans, 315/70/R17 Nitto Trail Grapplers(35's). I had absolutely no problem running the tires at highway speed.

Yep, it's strange. Most of the people I've talked to directly say I'll have no issue. There are a few folks on some of the forums that say my performance will take a huge hit and that I'll hate it. Go figure.

I have an automatic by the way, that may make a difference too.

Auto will make a difference, manuals tend to be better because you can downshift to whatever gear you find better for your terrain or situation, autos are harder and will lose more power

Youll be fine. I ran a 4 inch lift 3.73's, 35 imch nitto trail grapplers, and yes I have an auto 4 door. I regeared to 4.88's now and it is much better, but the 3.73's were okay for highway driving

I'm running 295/70/17's on 3.25" lift. Can still easily cruise @ 75 on the freeway. I have a superchip now that makes it feel like I'm on stock tires again. You'd be more than fine on 33.4" tires. 07 X 2door 6 spd 3.73 gears.
