Default Tire/Rim question

I've been looking all over and can't find a definite answer anywhere. Will a 12.5 inch wide tire fit on a stock JK rim? I'm looking for a 33x12.5 but wanted to save money and use the stock rims. Any help will be appreciated!

yes you'll be good to go, might consider using wheel spacers too.

You should also check with your tire shop. Some places will not mount wider tires on rims narrower than the recommended width spec for that particular tire.

Ok. That's what had me confused. Most 33 tires call for at least a 8.5 inch rim

Try a 285/70/R17

I have them on my rig and they're fitted to the stock Rubi rims.
I'm running Maxxis Bighorns
But I've heard some good things about the cooper st max

Yeah, many people are running 12.50 width tires on stock rims with zero issues, assuming they find a shop with no problems mounting them.

And you didn't mention it, but for general fitment, take into account that there may be differences in actual size from one tire brand/model to the next, even though the listed size is the same. (ie. both marked as 33x12.50, but tire A may be an inch taller/shorter than tire B, or wider/narrower.) So you may see posts from two different people saying the same 'size' tire rubs or doesn't rub. And then factor in the specific build of the JK in question, since even bone stock they may sit at different heights, or have different fenders, or bumpers, or an axle may be shifted over a bit, or a plastic skid has or has not been trimmed or ripped off, or any number of other variables to the question 'can I run x.xx tire without rubbing' ...

No problems running on stock wheels. You will want 1.5" spacers, and make sure and do a chalk test to make sure you have the right amount of air in the tires to get a good ride and even wear.

Absolutely will fit. So will an 8.5 inch wide tire. Wonder why AEV and RUGGED RIDGE don't make a 7.5 wide rim.

8" wide wheel is ideal for a 12.5" wide tire. If you think that 1/4" less on each side with a stock 7.5" wheel is THAT big of a deal........

You'll be fine with that setup OP
