Default Tire Pressure Sensor. Help Needed!

Help needed on tire pressure sensor.

Just installed new BFG Mud Terrain KM2 tires on my stock JK Sahara.

Previous Tires: Dueler H/T 255 70 R18 (32x10 R18)
New Tires: BFG MudTerrain KM2 305 60 R18 (32.6x12.2 R18)

The new tires were installed in the stock wheels, with the tire pressure sensor. The new tires are slightly taller, and much wider.

As read in this forum, I'm supposed to inflate the tires at 28-30 PSI for street driving. But the tire pressure sensor indicates that the tires are at a low PSI. And it is constantly turned on while driving. Inflating again the tires to 35 PSI turns off the indicator.

Is there a way to reset the indicator to operate as 'normal' (off) at a tire pressure of 28-30 PSI???

JK Sahara. Everything stock except Tires and Spacers.
Tires: BFG MudTerrain KM2 305 60 R18 (32.6x12.2 R18)
Spacers: Omix ADA Rugged Ridge 5on5 1.375"

You will need to visit your local dealer and have them adjust the minimum TPMS pressure to 28 psi in your ECU. (28 psi is as low as their software will allow)

My dealer did the TPMS reset for free, but i had to pay 40 bucks for the tire size reset. I think they reset mine for the sahara tires and the speedo is right on.

As stated above 28psi is lowest dealer can flash. At least is just a light and no buzzer. I had to kill the buzzer in the 4runner, REALLY ANNOYING !!

Also, Dont run the higher psi just to turn the light off. It will cause funky tire wear, and possibly unsafe condition as the larger tire is not meant to be run on the stock size rim.

Looks good by the way !!

BigBadMike,

Thx for the advice. What is the PSI recommended for this tires/size/wheels? For street driving? for offroad driving?

I would run 28-30psi for street and 18-20 off road. I'm not a big fan of psi so low it looks like a flat tire off road. It would be easy to loose the bead if too low. On the road, you dont want to overinflate becaust the center of the tire will be the only thing touching the ground. You will wind up with a reverse-mohawk look, not to mention the less contact means less traction and unsafe condition should you need to brake.

This is just my two cents, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Ultimately, you should increase your rim size to 8.5+ then you will be able to inflate to the tires specs without screwing up your tread, thus keeping the idiot light off in the process.

Hope this helps.
