Default Tire Carrier Advice

Looking for a tire carrier to hold a 37" spare
I really like the look of the OR-Fab but i have heard some bad things about the powder coat getting chipped and rusted pretty easy and if any of you guys know the weather up in the mountains of Colorado Springs i need something that can take a beating
just wondering what is out there that people are happy with and would recommend

I have the Or-Fab carrier for about 4 months now. There is some rust issues at the strike plate where the powder coat has worn off from friction. Very mild rust at the hinge. Overall, very happy with the sturdiness and the carrying capacity of the carrier. It is a pain in the ass to install. Make sure you read the instructions 10 times, especially noting the size of the bolts and you torque the bolts down to gorilla specs or it will come loose on you. Their customer service is TOP NOTCH. The president of the company gave me his CELL so I could call him on the weekend if I had any questions!!! Try that with any other company. The other alternative is Genright's aluminum carrier. It is half the weight, but twice the price and doesn't have provisions to carry fuel cans.

Love my Or-fab pain in the ass to install but well worth the end result great product. But like everyone else has said read the destractions carefully. If mine starts to show a lot of rust ill just spray it with some bedliner and be done with it

I went with the GenRight aluminum tire carrier. Super easy install and it will never rust Super lightweight at about 20lbs. Steel version also available.

Man, I like that. Does it swing out with the rear door, or by itself?

It is on its own. You can see two pins on the left side. Those pins pull out, the carrier swings open. The tailgate then opens normally.
