Default Tire carrier?

I have been running my new gy duratrac 35" tire with my stock spare tire setup for 2 1/2 months now. I installed the MBRP spare tire reinforcement with smittybilt adjustable mount and it has yet to show any problems. I was just wondering if anyone had pics or a story about why this is not ok.

The reinforcing brackets help a lot my story is i have toyo mt 285/75/17 which is a 34 inch tire. tire alone weighs 97 pounds on stock rims on my gate quite a little bit of time the only thing it cause on mine it made the hinges lose at the pins.just keep an eye on it. I just installed the teraflex carrier now i do not have to worry about it. Good luck

I've had the same setup for 10 months with 315/70 Cooper AT/3s with no problems. Only other thing I did was drill the tailgate and add a third bump stop, to minimize vibration (triangle pattern helps). Ordering the Tflex carrier soon off of (what truckers have hanging right behind their tires to keep mud and debris from flying onto other cars)-dot com @$400 shipped. I have had zero problems so far but admittedly only wheel 5-6 times per year.

Yeah it's the OE hinges that become the most problematic. Especially if your off road a good amount. My oe hinges allowed my gate to clunk all over the place being worn out from a only a 295/70/17 Nitto on the stock carrier for about 2 years or so.

Thanks for the info. I just look at mine and the bumpstops don't even touch the tire? 4 wheel parts installed this when I got my lift put on. Do you have pics of yours is this normal?

I just got some radiator hose at Auto Zone and made them longer. Works well.

Check out the daystar bumpstops. They're made for that reason and you can trim them to fit...about $15.00

Awesome tip. Thanks a lot. With these bump stops, the reinforcement kit, and the relocation bracket I'm thinking this will be pretty stout. I don't have the cash for a carrier so hopefully I won't have any issues. Last alternative for me not having cash for carrier is to just go with tramp stamp and remove tire but I'd rather have it with me....

I would skip the bump stops. They are made out of foam. You are better off with some thick rubber hose cut to length. As far as running that carrier, just keep an eye on it, it may hold up fine. Check the welds and be cautious if it starts moving or rattling.
