Time for a makeover
Bought my rubi in Dec of 06. Needless to say, at that point, aftermarket stuff for the JK were slim pickings. My only real quality options on bumpers were the Warn full width front and swing away rear. Also went with the FT 3" mid-level lift. Have been nothing but pleased through some pretty decent wheeling through the years. At the time, I was living in Appalachian mts and now in VA beach. Obviously diff styles of wheeling. Anybody have any suggestions on some set-ups they have run in sandy areas and worked? I'm thinking I def want to swap out with some lighter, slimmer bumpers( if anyone is interested in the warns for cheap, let me know) and maybe more of a LCOG setup. I miss all the flexing, slippery big rocks and trail riding of my mountain home, but the beach wheeling is a good time too, just gotta shed some pounds ands drop down a bit. I'm still totally happy with all my other mods.

sand wheeling is pretty easy,, I say go with what ever you think looks good. On a side note,, My roommate moved out to Virginia beach about a year ago. He is the master brewer at Karl Strause. Go in and tell him Dave from HB told him to give you a beer!!! He is a brilliant brewer,, his name is Eddie.
Edit.... Gordon Biersch is the brewery,, see address below

Being from the area (Ches), there's nothing really wrong with your 3" kit as long as it rides decent down on the beach. The fastest 'legal' speed limit down there is 25 anyways and that's in the off season.
I widened my track (wheel spacers plus low backspace wheels) and went with lightweight bumpers....seems to work well for me. Depending on how defensive of a driver you are, aluminum may be the route for you to go. I've got an aluminum rear bumper and a stubby up front. A winch is a good idea for the beach if you need to pull someone out and there's not really room to get a running start.
I'll say this though- set your suspension up to handle the terrible roads out here- something to soak up the bumps, potholes, and general horribleness of 264. Being new to the area, please avoid the local shops if you can.....most of them are geared towards the military personnel in the area who have a ton of cash and no idea what good quality stuff is.
And where is Karl Strause???

Aw hell, I was next door to Gordon Biersch tonight right there at PF Chang's. I may have to stop by one day and see the master brewer. Thank you for the info (let's pretend like I needed a reason to stop in hahaha).
Easttnruby (vabeachruby)- gimme a shout if you want to change some things up. I've got a decently equipped garage just around the corner and certainly some know-how here and there about these toys.

Easttnruby, welcome to VB. I've lived here my entire life, but just recently got into the jeep world so I can't offer much Jeep advice.
Do check out Starr Motors in Suffolk. There's some Youtube posts of the offroad area they have behind the dealership. I had my AEV lift installed there. Never checked out the offroad area, but it looks like fun on the videos.
