It is "generally" recommended to purchase a winch "at least" 50% greater then your Gross Vehicle Weight. (GVW)
2008 Sahara 4dr 4x4
GVW 4990 (10 wopping pounds short of 5000) x 1.5 = 7485

Add yourself
Gear
Maybe a few friends
"33.5 Nitto Terra Graplers
"17 XD series addicts
Smittybilt XRC front bumper
Smittybilt SRC side armor
Winch
And future mods.

Ya think you are getting close to the "least recommended weight"?

I got a smitty snatch block if I need some real tugging power. 25 bucks and my 300 dollar XRC8 is 16,000. It still sits unused in the bag and hopefully will remain unused.

I've had my XRC8 for 3 or 4 years and used it much harder than I ever expected to. It's been a solid winch and I have had zero problems with it. Used it several times pulling others out in the mud and for landscaping projects. I've grown to really trust this winch and would consider another one without hesitation.

On my 2nd XRC8 winch is on my LJf. First one was covered under warranty byv4wd.com. It was heavily used and actually snapped the steel line went to a synthetic rope which was a good investment. Winch 1 had a gear failure Their cover needs a lot of help too Winch 2 I cleaned out the Chinese grease and repacked everything on day one. It is holding up for now For the new JK went to warn 9.5 CTI-S at 4 times the cost as i was concerned over the gears failing

I took off my xrc8 last year to move over to my jeep hauler trailer. It was on my heavy 4-door for 2 1/2 years and never failed a pull. It was used many times with synthetic. I'm in MI so it was abused with road salt and such. The only issue I had was the clutch handle stripped. I got crap from lots of my wheel'n buds for buying it instead of the "big name brand", which I do own now , I have no regrets.

My Smittybilt XRC-10 Comp is a relabled T-Max winch. Has T-Max marked on the Red battery cable. T-Max is sold through an Australian company. Still probaly made in China.

Anyway, had mine for about 2 years and pulled two full size 4x4 trucks (Ford & Chevy) out off the mud. They were not sunk to the frame, just not going any further. Pulled some stumps and small boulders also. Have had zero issues with winch. Now the cover that came with it sucks. Faded fast and is nowhere close to fitting well. More like a cover for a large loaf of bread. Bought a Warn neoprene cover that works much better. Warn logo facing inward not to deceive anyone.

If I had double the cash at the time, I'd gottem a Warn.
